Customer Operations Team Leader

Our client

This is a business that keeps Auckland moving – connecting communities, commuters, and tourists with some of the region’s most iconic destinations. With a packed summer season ahead, they’re looking for an experienced people leader to guide a frontline team through the busiest months on the water.

You’ll be stepping in to lead a largely seasonal team – many of whom will be new to the business – helping build confidence, capability, and a strong sense of team culture from day one. This is a hands-on, on-the-ground role where every day brings variety, challenge, and the chance to make a real impact!

The role

  • Lead and motivate a frontline team, setting clear expectations and providing regular, constructive feedback
  • Onboard, train, and support new team members so they’re confident and customer-ready
  • Ensure all team members meet uniform, PPE, and service presentation standards
  • Maintain high company-wide standards – cleanliness, presentation, and exceptional customer service
  • Address performance or conduct issues promptly and fairly
  • Be the calm in the chaos – problem-solving on the fly and stepping in when needed
  • Collaborate with leadership on process improvements and contribute to ongoing training initiatives
  • Manage daily operations – rostering, team allocation, and smooth shift delivery

About you

You’re a natural leader who thrives in a fast-paced, people-first environment. Calm under pressure and confident in your decisions, you lead with empathy and bring out the best in others.

  • Proven team leadership experience in a customer-facing or operational setting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to have robust conversations, deliver feedback, and influence stakeholders
  • A coaching mindset with a passion for developing people
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Confidence navigating safety procedures and quality standards
  • Maritime or transport operations experience (not essential!)
  • Open to experience within Learning and Development or HR, as you will be leveraging very similar skills and approaches
