HR Advisor 14 month FTC (Mat Cover)

Our client

Our client is a well-established and growing construction business based in East Tamaki, who complete slick residential builds across the North Island, the business has a strong, practical culture and values HR as a true partner to the organisation.

The role

This is a 14-month fixed-term HR Advisor role covering parental leave, ideal for someone with 2+ years’ HR advisory experience who enjoys variety and being close to the business.

The HR Advisor will partner with leaders and project teams, providing hands-on, solutions-focused HR support across the full employee lifecycle in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting performance reviews, training, and development initiatives
  • Coordinating end-to-end recruitment and onboarding/offboarding and exit process
  • Acting as the first point of contact for employee relations matters
  • Coaching and supporting managers through ER and performance processes
  • Maintaining HR systems, employee records, and payroll updates
  • Ensuring HR policies and practices remain compliant and up to date
  • Contributing to employee engagement, wellbeing, and culture initiatives
  • Has access to the support of an employment lawyer for complex HR/ER matters (very rare)

About you

This role will suit a practical, organised HR professional who is confident supporting leaders and managing competing priorities.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a HR advisory or similar role
  • Strong working knowledge of NZ employment legislation
  • Experience across ER, recruitment, and performance management
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Confidence using HRIS platforms (Employment Hero experience preferred)
  • A proactive, professional, and people-centred approach
  • A relevant HR qualification is desirable.
